Ham, Cannons Beat Imperials, 9-7 | The 9-7 Cincinnati win over New York was due in large part to Charlie Ham. The Cannons first baseman was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Paul Williams earned the save, his 21st, for the Cannons. The Cannons, at 56-50, sit in 6th place in the Continental Association.
Had Bonnie Chapin not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Chapin hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Cannons.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Cincinnati manager Buddy Baumgart. | |
