| Cannons Beaten By Imperials, 5-4 | The Cincinnati Cannons got a sterling performance from pitcher Red Cunningham, but the New York Imperials still prevailed, 5-4. Cunningham threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Glenn Webb. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 2-1. The last-place Imperials own a record of 27-78.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jim Lang came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Paul Williams, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 5-4.
"This was a good win," said Lang.
