| Austin Helps Dynamos Defeat Clippers, 7-1 | With second baseman Bill Austin leading the charge, the Detroit Dynamos defeated the Baltimore Clippers, 7-1, at Thompson Field. Austin, who led the FA in hits with 198 in 1970, was 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Detroit, now 48-84, holds down last place in the Federal Association West.
With Detroit leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Austin hit a slider from Dick Butler for a 2-run triple. It was his 6th triple of the season and put the Dynamos ahead, 4-1.
"Good win for us," said Austin. "Now we'll focus on the next one."
