| Sailors Prevail, 2-1, Over Toronto | Bob Briggs never let Toronto get something going. The San Francisco right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Sailors to a 2-1 win. The win was credited to Bert Alexander in relief. His record improves to 13-14. Stan Terry took the loss. Getting the save was Eli Kershaw, his 9th.
Had Woody Richardson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Richardson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Sailors.
"Scoring was at a premium tonight," Richardson said.
San Francisco occupies 4th place in the Continental Association West at 60-71. | |
