| Mavericks Get Better of Arrows, 4-1 | The Kansas City Mavericks beat the Milwaukee Arrows, 4-1. Kansas City pitcher and New Haven, Connecticut, native Cal Newman led the way. Newman, now 6-12, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. With the win over Milwaukee, the Mavericks improved to 52-79.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of George Helm to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mavericks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Cal has got a slow heartbeat," said Kansas City manager Sakan Hashizume. "He doesn't panic or anything." | |
