The Los Angeles Stars and the Cincinnati Cannons played into extra innings before the winner was determined. The Stars won it, 5-4, in 12 innings. In the game, Los Angeles right fielder Ed Bogan was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Los Angeles reliever John Herzog picked up the win to move to 8-3. Joe Cipolla suffered the loss. The first-place Stars go to 80-48.

The Stars got a clutch hit from shortstop Lew Smith. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Stars.

"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Bogan, cracking a smile.
