| Cincinnati Downs Kansas City, 7-3 | The Cincinnati Cannons beat the Kansas City Mavericks, 7-3, at Tice Memorial Stadium II. The win was due in part to left fielder Billy West, who went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Ike Hawley, who is tied for 4th in the CA in strikeouts with 141, was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts. Their 58-73 record puts the Cannons 5th in the Continental Association East.
With Cincinnati leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, West hit a curveball from Dave Dalton for a 3-run home run. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Cannons ahead, 6-1.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," West told the Cincinnati Bulletin. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames." | |
