The San Francisco Sailors reigned over the Seattle Kings in damp conditions.

The San Francisco Sailors defeated the Seattle Kings, 9-8, at Seattle Municipal Stadium. San Francisco shortstop Art Gates had a superb performance. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Ralph Pierce claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. His record stands at 1-1.

Had Harry Myers not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Myers hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Sailors.

"Art is still learning," said Sailors manager Bob Harris. "The sky's the limit for him."

Seattle falls to 4-5.
