"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

Thad Kelly of the Tijuana Toreadors proved the point at Tijuana Municipal Stadium today, holding the Santa Fe Friars to 3 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"Kelly made us look real bad today," Friars manager Adrian Horton said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Kelly had 5 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk as the Toreadors took the 16-0 win.

Thus far this season Kelly has compiled a 4-13 record, made no relief appearances with no saves, hurling 149.2 innings and striking out 105. He has held the opposition to a .294 batting average with a 5.17 ERA.
