San Francisco Defeated By Foresters, 5-1 | The Cleveland Foresters started the 1963 season win an impressive 5-1 win against the San Francisco Sailors at Forester Stadium. Adrian Czerwinski, who led the CA in wins with 23 in 1953, led the way for Cleveland. In 9 innings, Czerwinski surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run.
Earl Howe had a big 2-run double for the Foresters in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Cleveland leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Charlie Lawson, who finished 2nd in the CA in strikeouts with 165 in 1961, and swatted a double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Foresters ahead, 3-0.
Howe attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity." | |
