| Comets Lose By a Run at Chicago | In a low-scoring tilt between the Chicago Chiefs and the Houston Comets, Johnny Maples, who finished 4th in the FA in strikeouts with 156 last year, was the difference-maker. The Chicago right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Houston is 0-2 after the defeat.
Freddie Mitchel had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Chicago. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Chicago in front, 3-1.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Chicago manager Ollie Howard said.
