Chiefs Win at Detroit, 5-1 | The Chicago Chiefs beat the Detroit Dynamos, 5-1, at Thompson Field. The Chiefs got a fine performance from center fielder Rod Shearer, who went 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jack Halbur earned the win. Jim Norris, who finished 3rd in the FA in ERA with 2.97 in 1955, took the loss for Detroit. The defeat makes Detroit 1-1.
Shearer had a game-changing triple in the top of the sixth. On a 1-1 splitter from Jim Norris, he banged a run-scoring triple to left-center, giving the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. It was the 1st triple of the year for Shearer.
"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Shearer said (again). | |
