Down to Defeat Goes Detroit, 6-5
The Washington Eagles downed the Detroit Dynamos, 6-5, at Columbia Stadium. Jack Thompson led the way, going 3-for-4 for Washington. The winner was Washington reliever Otto Caudill, now 2-4. The loser was Howie French. Washington now has a record of 28-14 with the win.

One of the clutch hits for Washington came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with no one out, Tom Lorang, who led the FA in batting average with .386 last year, hit a run-scoring single to put the Eagles up, 6-5. For the game, the third baseman was 1 for 3 with a walk.

"Nice to keep stacking the wins," said Lorang.
