| Pioneers Beaten By Keystones, 5-1 | The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Pioneers and Philadelphia Keystones get after it.
The Philadelphia Keystones got a stellar performance from pitcher Joe Kienle, who handcuffed the St. Louis offense en route to a win, 5-1, at Broad Street Park II. The winner was Kienle. He threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Charlie Blake.
In the bottom of the second, Philadelphia left fielder Fred Davis had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Davis stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 2-0, Philadelphia. For the game, he went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"Joe just settled in and did what he does," said Philadelphia manager Don Fox.
Philadelphia now sits at 38-41, while St. Louis falls to 53-26.
