The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

Philadelphia beat Minneapolis on the strength of starting pitcher Jim Elliott's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 2-1. Philadelphia reliever Joe Potts was the winner. His record is now 7-3. Bill Parkhurst took the loss.

The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Buddy Miller came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minneapolis pitcher Bill Parkhurst, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 2-1.
