Oakes, Eagles Too Much for Millers | The Washington Eagles defeated the Minneapolis Millers, 6-3, at Columbia Stadium. Washington catcher Howdy Oakes had a superb performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. With the win, Washington pushed its record to 25-14.
Oakes contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Washington in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-1, Oakes took a fastball from Ed Power and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Eagles to leap in front, 3-2.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Oakes. | |
