| New York Bats Quiet in 6-1 Loss | Floyd Warner, who finished 3rd in the CA in strikeouts with 185 in 1966, never let the Imperials get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Stars to a win, 6-1. John Herzog, who finished 4th in the CA in saves with 21 in 1971, nailed down the save. The loss makes New York 15-14.
Los Angeles used a clutch at-bat from Ed Moore to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Stars ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"I love playing this game, so you'll never see me not want to go out there and pitch," said Warner. | |
