Coleman Swings Pioneers to 11-9 Win
The St. Louis Pioneers beat the New York Gothams in a game featuring much hitting but not much pitching. The final score was 11-9, Pioneers. One of the hitting stars was left fielder Cliff Coleman. Coleman was 4 for 6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Charlie Christianson nailed down the save. Now 11-15, the Gothams have not played well this season.

With St. Louis leading 3-0 in the top of the second, Coleman hit a changeup from Joe Nelson for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Pioneers ahead, 5-0.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Coleman told a St. Louis Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
