Minutemen Deal Miners 5-1 Loss | The Boston Minutemen beat the Pittsburgh Miners, 5-1. Boston pitcher and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, native Don Griffin led the way. The winner was Griffin. He threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Pat Simon. The Minutemen improved to 30-39.
Boston used the hitting of Sal Nigro to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Minutemen on top, 5-0. For the game, Nigro had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
