| Blake Muzzles New York Bats | All went well for Charlie Blake of the St. Louis Pioneers as he pitched his team to a shutout victory, 5-0, over the New York Gothams, limiting them to 3 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Blake on the day.
"Charlie's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Pioneers manager Lou Ormsby. "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
In the contest, the St. Louis right-hander rang up 6 and surrendered 2 walks.
"He didn't give us any second chances," said Gothams manager Bert Carlton. "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
