| Wolves Need Extra Frames to Get Past Saints | The Toronto Wolves, despite a fine performance by Montreal pitcher George Williams, grabbed a 3-2 win at Stade Montreal. Williams allowed 1 run over 8 innings. Bill Johnson, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. The Wolves, now 4-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Jim Brooks to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Wolves on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Carl Evans, the Toronto skipper. "This one tested us." | |
