| Bears Earn 3-0 Home Win | Sapporo pitcher Katsumasa Hashimoto had a large part in his team subduing the Yokohama Kingfishers, 3-0. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. The winner was Hashimoto. He threw 8.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Bill Sauerwein. Shinichi Kanehara earned the save for Sapporo.
Tomiyuki Kusumoto had a big run-scoring double for the Bears in the bottom of the third inning. With Sapporo leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from Bill Sauerwein, who is tied for 3rd in the EL in strikeouts with 32, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bears ahead, 2-0.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Bears manager Ritsuo Yoshida. "This one was nice to get."
With the win, Sapporo has a record of 13-19. Yokohama falls to 11-20.
