Tomiyuki Kusumoto impressed in the 5-2 Sapporo win over Yokohama. Kusumoto, who led the EL in triples with 8 in 1971, went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Sapporo is now 11-20.

The game was on the line with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but Eisaku Yamaoka didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Yokohama trailing 3-2, Yamaoka retired Ikuto Shinseki to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Yamaoka, with a wink.
