Sonoda, who led the EL in RBI with 106 last year, was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Shigeyasu Hirayama, the winner, improved to 2-2. He held the Reliables to no runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Yokohama, now 13-8, has played well in the early going.
In the bottom of the sixth, Shigemitsu Fukui delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Yokohama second baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Kingfishers in front, 12-0.
