| St. Louis Blanks Chicago, Spongberg Winner | The bats were ice cold for the Chicago Chiefs at Whitney Park. St. Louis Pioneers starter Tom Spongberg kept the Chiefs cold all day, shutting them out, 4-0. In a fine outing, the 26-year-old hurler allowed 5 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2.
"I'm not quite sure what was different today," Spongberg admitted later. "I didn't feel like I was doing anything differently, but the results speak for themselves."
