| Copperheads Handed 3-1 Loss | Heinie Schmidt pitched a gem to lead Los Angeles to victory over the Atlanta Copperheads, 3-1. Schmidt, now 13-9, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Los Angeles is now 71-57, while Atlanta is 79-48.
Los Angeles used a well-timed hit by Ed Mooney to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Suns ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Mooney said.
