| Copperheads Win, 4-3, Versus Los Angeles | The Atlanta Copperheads, with some walk-off drama, delighted their fans at Peachtree Stadium.
The Los Angeles Suns could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jimmy Blair into a win. Instead, the Atlanta Copperheads prevailed, 4-3. Blair threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Buddy Thomas earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record is now 5-7.
Gus Richards was the walk-off hero for Atlanta. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Copperheads left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Richards said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.
Atlanta is now 79-47, 8½ games up in the Federal Association East. | |
