| Philadelphia Absorbs 2-1 Loss to Chicago | Chicago pitcher Johnny Maples did his part in helping his team defeat the Philadelphia Keystones, 2-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Maples, now 13-7. He tossed 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. Hal Alsip got the save, his 16th in 23 chances.
Ricardo Castillo, who finished 4th in the FA in stolen bases with 31 last year, helped out the Chicago cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the third baseman drove in one run.
"Some games build character," said Chicago manager Ollie Howard. "Like this one."
With the victory, the Chiefs upped their record to 66-63. | |
