| Copperheads Win at Home, 5-3 | The Atlanta Copperheads topped the St. Louis Pioneers, 5-3, in Federal Association action at Peachtree Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Atlanta pitcher Harry Inge. In 6 innings, Inge surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. The save was credited to Frank Maxwell, his 3rd.
The Pioneers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Copperheads going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 33-year old center fielder Don Riley came to the plate. Riley hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 fastball from St. Louis hurler John Green. It was Riley's 9th double of the year.
Atlanta manager Don Fox praised his team's "businesslike approach."
Atlanta, at 78-47, occupies first place in the Federal Association East. | |
