| Bears Fall to Reliables Late | The Hosho Reliables beat the Sapporo Bears, 5-3. Hosho pitcher and Kashiwa, Japan, native Eichiro Ueno led the way. Hod Taylor Jr. earned the save, his 2nd. Sapporo now is 9-9.
Had Yasunori Smith not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Smith hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Reliables.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Smith told the Hosho Times. "But we take nothing for granted."
