Both offenses were relatively subdued at Owls Park. Fortunately for the Kyoto Owls, though, Shun Smith was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs, to lead his team past the Rakisuta Rams, 3-2. Kenshin Kon got the save, the 7th for him this season. With the win, Kyoto is 12-7.

Smith had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-2 splitter from Shigeyoshi Taira, he banged a solo home run to left-center, giving the Owls a 3-2 lead. It was the 5th home run of the year for Smith.

Smith told the Kyoto Daily: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
