| It's Over! Philadelphia Defeats Baltimore | For the Philadelphia Keystones, it was a joyful time; for the Baltimore Cannons, it was gloom and doom.
With a 3-2 win at Broad Street Park, Philadelphia closed out the championship 4-1 over Baltimore.
The Keystones have now won their 8th league championship in franchise history. The streets around the Keystones' stadium were a mob scene, filling quickly with fans, while banners and flags were held high and waved proudly.
"It's unbelievable for us, our great fans, and all of Philadelphia," said a smiling owner Jefferson Edgerton. "The guys really put their heart and soul into this season and it paid off for them."
In a somewhat somber and dejected Cannons clubhouse, manager Monty Beatson said his team "just didn't get the job done."
"The Keystones played as good as any team I've seen and deserve to be champions," he said.
The champs finished the regular season 86-68 and claimed first place in the Federal League. | |
