| Bears Topple Kingfishers, 9-3 | The Sapporo Bears pinned a convincing loss on the Yokohama Kingfishers, 9-3, at Kanagawa Stadium. Kenichi Hotta was a main factor in the win. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Sapporo. Yokohama is now 9-7.
Hiroiaki Nakazawa had a big 2-run home run for the Bears in the top of the fourth inning. With Sapporo leading 3-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 32-year old left-handed pitcher Bill Sauerwein and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Bears on top, 5-0.
"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager Masayoshi Nozawa. | |
