| Bears Score Late, Top Kingfishers, 4-2 | Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Sapporo Bears got the win.
Behind an impressive start by Yamada Yamanaka, Sapporo beat Yokohama, 4-2. Yukinobu Nobuhara wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
Sapporo used the timely hitting of Kenichi Hotta to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bears on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I go out there and do my job," said Yamanaka, "knowing I've got eight other guys to help me out."
The Kingfishers, now 4-13, continue their sluggish start.
