| Kusumoto 3-for-4 to Fuel Bears Offense | Conditions were not ideal but Sapporo and Yokohama were able to put their game in the books.
Tomiyuki Kusumoto helped his team muscle past the Yokohama Kingfishers, 7-2. In the game, the Sapporo left fielder was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Naruki Shimada, the winner, improved to 4-0. He held the Kingfishers to 2 runs on 5 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3.
Kusumoto had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 1-0 fastball from Bill Sauerwein, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Bears a 4-2 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Kusumoto.
"We took home the win," said Kusumoto. "What's not to like?"
The Kingfishers, now 4-12, continue their slow start. | |
