| In Extras, Rams Beat Bears | The Rakisuta Rams racked up a win at Rakisuta Stadium, bumping off the Sapporo Bears, 2-1, in 11 innings. Juro Esaki, who started for Rakisuta, pitched effectively for his team. Rakisuta pitcher Gunji Matsuda got the win, upping his record to 1-2. Ichirou Fukumoto got the loss. "Lousy" describes the Sapporo performance in the early going.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, eight-time All-Star Takanori Matsui had a chance to be the hero. Sapporo pitcher Jim Jackson wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Matsui hit a sacrifice fly. The Rams had themselves a thrilling win.
"Tough loss," said Sapporo manager Ritsuo Yoshida. "Tough one to swallow." | |
