| Kingfishers Victorious at Kyoto, 8-4 | Yokohama left fielder Tokita Oishi contributed significantly to his team's 8-4 win over the Kyoto Owls. Oishi, who finished 3rd in the EL in extra base hits with 49 in 1953, went 2 for 2 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Kingfishers. Shigeyasu Hirayama, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1. The win gives Yokohama a record of 7-6.
In the top of the sixth, Yokohama shortstop Daijiro Sato had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Sato stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 4-1, Yokohama. For the game, he was 1-4 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Kingfishers manager Tommy McDonell.
