| Bears Get Better of Reliables, 5-2 | The Sapporo Bears got a rain-soaked win over the Hosho Reliables.
The Sapporo Bears got a marvelous performance from pitcher Arata Komatsu. The right-hander kept the Hosho offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 5-2 Sapporo victory at Sapporo Stadium. Komatsu, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks.
Tsuguto Nakamura, who finished 3rd in the EL in on-base percentage with .391 in 1960, contributed to the Sapporo win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Nakamura.
The win brings the Bears to 5-4, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
