The Sapporo Bears picked up a win at Owls Park, dropping the Kyoto Owls, 4-2. Yamada Yamanaka, who finished 5th in the EL in wins with 11 in 1967, was the difference-maker. Shinichi Kanehara was credited with the save for Sapporo, his 2nd of the season. Sapporo goes to 2-1 with the win.

Tomiyuki Kusumoto, who is a two-time All-Star, had a direct impact on the outcome. Kusumoto contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Sapporo up, 2-0.

Kusumoto called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
