The Chicago Chiefs managed to get by the New York Gothams, 2-1, in 10 innings at Whitney Park. Chicago pitcher Johnny Maples set himself apart with his performance. Chicago occupies 5th place in the Federal Association West at 52-74.

Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 24-year old catcher Chris Wells had a real shot to win the game. New York pitcher Bunny Mullins was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Wells hit a run-scoring single. The Chiefs had a walk-off triumph.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Chicago skipper Ollie Howard.
