| Bears Beat Kyoto, 3-2 | The Sapporo Bears took Kyoto pitcher Ukita Tomita's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Owls Park. The final score had Sapporo getting past the Owls, 3-2. Tomita went 7 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. Naruki Shimada got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Owls to 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Shinichi Kanehara closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Sapporo relied on the hitting of Nobuyori Toyama to pick up the win. The center fielder ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bears on top, 3-2. For the game, Toyama had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Kyoto manager Tomoya Nagao. "We just didn't cash in."
Kyoto drops to 1-1.
