Win Makes Sailors 53-38 | San Francisco starter Charlie Lawson pitched well against the Chicago Cougars at Golden Gate Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. San Francisco reliever Eddie Chapman, who is tied for 3rd in the CA in saves with 15, was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-9. Arch Wilson took the loss for Chicago. With the win, San Francisco pushed its record to 53-38.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Art Johnson was at the plate when San Francisco scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Sailors to go in front, 4-3.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Lawson. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win." | |
