In a tight contest at Columbia Stadium, the Detroit Dynamos edged the Washington Eagles by the score of 4-3. Detroit left fielder Dave Black, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Bob Reed closed out the game, earning his 4th save. The 5th-place Eagles dropped to 59-65.

Black had a consequential at-bat in the top of the fourth for the Dynamos. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Detroit trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single.

"If it's down the middle," said Black, "you might as well hit it."
