| Richards Socks Copperheads in 6-5 Pioneers Win | The Atlanta Copperheads and St. Louis Pioneers provided some drama for the home crowd.
The St. Louis Pioneers turned back the Atlanta Copperheads, 6-5, at Peachtree Stadium. John Richards, in particular, had a fine performance. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Ted Blixt picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Dutch Wright, who finished 3rd in the FA in ERA with 2.81 in 1973, was tagged with the loss.
With St. Louis trailing 3-1 in the top of the fifth, Richards hit a sinker from Dutch Wright for a grand slam home run. It was his 21st home run of the season and put the Pioneers ahead, 5-3.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Richards.
St. Louis bumps their record to 55-68 with the win. | |
