Cannons Earn 7-4 Home Win | The inspired effort of New York catcher Jay Ziegler Jr. was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-4, to the Cincinnati Cannons. Ziegler Jr. went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Jack Meeks got the win, improving to 9-7. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 3. Paul Williams notched his 18th save in 20 chances.
The Cannons got a big at-bat from left fielder Bonnie Chapin. For the game, Chapin went 1-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 17th home run of the season gave Cincinnati a 6-3 lead.
"I felt good up there," said Chapin. "I saw the ball well."
With the win, Cincinnati raised its record to 45-33. | |
