New York right-hander Ed Bowman pitched his team to victory over the Detroit Dynamos at Thompson Field. The final score was 5-1. New York goes to 66-79, Detroit to 62-82.

Chubby Smith dealt the Dynamos a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and New York leading 1-0, Smith hit a 1-2 splitter for a 2-run single.

"It's better to burn out than to rust," said the ageless Bowman.
