| Comets Drop Copperheads, 4-3 | Curly Anderson pitched well, but the Atlanta Copperheads still fell short, losing, 4-3, to the Houston Comets at Peachtree Stadium. The winning pitcher was Joe McCarthy. His record now stands at 7-3. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits for the Comets. Bob Young notched his 20th save in 24 chances.
Houston used a well-timed hit by Ernie Carter to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Comets ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Atlanta manager Don Fox said, following the tough loss.
With the win, Houston has a record of 64-54. Atlanta falls to 85-32.
