| Cannons Stun Cougars, 12-9 | Cincinnati first baseman Tony Nino made his presence felt in the 12-9 Cannons triumph over the Chicago Cougars. Nino went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Charlie Wolf converted his 9th save in 12 tries. The Cannons saw their win-loss record go to 53-67. At the same time, the Cougars fell to 62-55.
Cincinnati needed the clutch hitting of Walter Huckaby to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cannons on top, 12-9. For the game, Huckaby had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Huckaby told a Cincinnati Bulletin reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax." | |
