In a tight tilt between the Detroit Dynamos and the Atlanta Copperheads, Pat Fortier was the deciding factor. The Detroit right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Dick Butler earned the save for Detroit, his 16th of the year. Detroit, at 59-57, occupies 4th place in the Federal Association West.

The Dynamos got a big at-bat from left fielder Geoff Taylor. For the game, Taylor was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 21st double of the season gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.

"Pat made the big pitches when he needed to," said Detroit manager Roger Cleaves.
