| Washington Downed, 5-2, by Chiefs | The home team gave the crowd at Whitney Park something to cheer about.
The Chicago Chiefs beat the Washington Eagles, 5-2, at Whitney Park. The Chiefs got a fine performance from left fielder Joe Siniscalchi, who went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Chicago reliever Frank Carmichael picked up the win, upping his record to 7-3. Don Eddy took the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Rankin Ziegler came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Don Eddy, he hit a 2-1 changeup for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 4-2.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Siniscalchi.
The win gives Chicago a season record of 62-57. | |
