| Kings Overcome Great Performance by Johnston in Win | The Kansas City Kings withstood an impressive performance by Montreal first baseman Jim Johnston to defeat the Saints, 8-4, at Prairie Park. Johnston was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Gordon McDonald, the winner, is now 9-4. He struck out 2 and walked 3 over 5.1 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. The 5th-place Kings improved to 70-72.
An inflection point occurred with two out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Kings pitcher Gordon McDonald hit a knuckleball from Phil Murry for a 2-run single. Just like that, Kansas City was up, 5-4.
