| San Francisco Upended, 7-2, by New York | The New York Imperials defeated the San Francisco Sailors, 7-2, at Dyckman Stadium. New York was led by 26-year old second baseman Jake Poole, who was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Emmett Thornton, the winner, is now 7-9. He struck out 1 and walked 2 over 6 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The second-place Imperials have a record of 58-55.
The Imperials got a big hit from first baseman Mike Counts. Facing San Francisco pitcher Jim Teal in the bottom of the fifth, Counts pounded a run-scoring double to left. His 12th double of the season put the Imperials ahead, 4-2.
"We take it day by day here," said Poole, "and today was a good one for us."
