Chicago third baseman Pablo Vazquez helped his team beat the Kansas City Mavericks, 7-5. Vazquez went 3 for 5 for the Cougars. Jim Norris closed it out for his 18th save. Now 48-65, Kansas City has dropped 11 games in a row.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Bob Menz to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cougars on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I can only hope we've hit rock bottom," lamented losing manager Sakan Hashizume in postgame remarks.
