The Houston Comets could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joe McCarthy into a win. Instead, the Los Angeles Suns prevailed, 4-3. McCarthy threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The winner was Los Angeles reliever Harry Draper, now 2-1. The loser was Joe Barnes. The save went to Ron Clark, his 14th this season.

Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Al Johnson to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Suns on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Johnson said afterward that "winning is the goal."

Today's win puts Los Angeles at 63-51, while Houston falls to 60-52.
